COYOTE TEENS
- Open Den & Yearbook Signing
Friday, September
5th, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Lazy 5 Park, (the park in back
next to the skateboard park) in Spanish Springs.
The Coyote Open Den
is an opportunity for parents and teens new to the Coyote Teen group. A handout
will be provided, and the Coyote Advisors will be available to explain more
about this dynamic homeschool teen group, answer all your questions, and explain
how teens can get involved. Don't let another high school year go by
without providing your teen with an opportunity to be a part of this group.
Schedule:
Yearbook Signing: 6:00 p.m. Meet
at the park's pavilion. Bring your pens and be ready to sign yearbooks!
For those who did not buy a yearbook, please come and be part of the signing
party!
Coyote Orientation for parents & teens new to the
group: 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
Bring your
parent(s) and meet the Coyote Advisors. Receive our Coyote handout packed
full of information about the Coyote Teen Group, how it's managed, and how you
can get involved. Coyote Advisors will be available to answer all your
questions. Parents: Please let us know if you plan to attend so
that we can have enough handouts. Thank you!
Prom, Yearbook & Newsletter Committees:
7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Coyote
Advisors will be interviewing teens for committee positions. Those who are
interested in serving the Coyote Teen Group this year are encouraged to complete
our online application prior to September 5th. For more information about

SEPTEMBER 19th - Friday
NCHS Fall Workshops
Where: Hillside Foursquare Church (3200 Sutro, Reno
- from N. McCarran Blvd., turn north onto Sutro, go up the hill, look for
the small Hillside Foursquare Church on the right hand side of the road,
take the driveway up to the parking lot)
Cost: $10.00 for NCHS members; $15.00 for non-NCHS members
Time: Check
in at 1:00 p.m.
1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Homeschooling Through High School to College & Life:
Barbara Dragon, NHN Officer and "just retired" K-12 homeschool
mom of three boys, will help guide you through the high school years.
Adapting resources from Mary Schofield, Cathy Duffy and her own experience,
Barb will help you create an educational plan for you high school student.
By utilizing dual-credits from the community college to build a high school
transcript your high school graduate can enter a four-year college
or university as a sophomore at least. Your student not college bound?
Come learn how to finish the high school years with a transcript tailored to
your student's area of interest/skill or vocation. She'll encourage you in
your ability to keep homeschooling to the end and be GLAD you did! Lots
of hints and help for you and your student to succeed. Guaranteed must
"Go-To" to if you already have a high schooler, or your student is currently
in middle school. Never to early to begin preparing.

"Teaching" High School
At Home - Video, by
Dr. Jay L. Wile,
Ph.D.
Author of high school science courses through Apologia Educational
Ministries, Inc., Dr. Jay L. Wile holds an earned Ph.D. from the University
of Rochester in nuclear chemistry and a B.S. in chemistry from the same
institution. In this video presentation Dr. Wile addresses many of the
issues related to homeschooling a student at the high school level.
These include:
* His own experiences with homeschoolers at the university level
* Reasons for homeschooling through high school
* What studies have demonstrated regarding the academic and social
development of homeschooled children
Table Talks
If you are needing some one-on-one time a homeschool parent is available to
answer your questions or direct you to some great resources. NCHS
workshop handouts will also be available for $5.00 each.
SEPTEMBER 22nd
NCHS School Picture and
Family Portrait Day! with Alexis Turner - Monday, September 22nd,
10:00 a.m. at
Lazy 5 Park, Spanish Springs. Meet at the front park pavilion. If
there is bad weather (too windy or rainy), please meet in front of the
Spanish Springs library. We have reserved a room. Picture
packages are available for the whole family!
NOTE: Coyote Teens - it would be wonderful for you to get a
school picture done so that we can use it in our yearbook.
OCTOBER
3rd, 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Technology and
Sustainability Seminar, Peter Etchart, P.E., City Engineer
City Council Chambers, 745 4th
Street (in the City Hall complex). It is located on west side of 4th Street,
just south of Prater Way. There is limited parking in the small parking lot
to the south of the building but there is ample parking across 4th Street at
the American Legion Hall (730 4th Street) next to the Post Office.
The seminar
will discuss some of the current and future trends in technology and
sustainability. An emphasis will be on imminent and future technology
regarding energy, transportation, nanotechnology, and the sustainability
“green” movement. I will try to provide educational and career
opportunities that the youth may have in these fields. I will also discuss
some of the potential Christian opportunities that these technology trends
may provide.

Graduation Meeting:
If you are a
HIGH SCHOOL graduate you don't want to miss this meeting! Come see how
you can be part of a wonderful graduation experience! A DVD
presentation will be viewed and all questions will be answered. This
meeting is for parents and homeschool Seniors. A graduation timeline
will be provided, so don't miss this meeting! Last year
24 homeschool teens from all over northern Nevada participated in
this event with over 500 in attendance.
